The Zojirushi NYC-36 has the capacity of 20 cups of dry rice which equates to 40 cups of cooked rice. Let’s assume that 1 cup of dry rice per person, this will feed about 40 people. Certainly, if you use this in a restaurant, you may not have to serve that much rice per customer. I am sure you know your business very well. Plan ahead to cook a pot of rice at a certain time. In fact, many restaurants have more than one rice cookers to alternate between white and brown rice or just as a safety net in case one dies on your during the business hour. You’ve got a million things to worry about. Don’t let cooking rice be another headache for you.

Two parts to this rice cooker: the external vessel with the heating element on the bottom and the inner cooking pot fits into the external vessel. Close the lid. Plug the power cord in. Since I’ve just talked about how easy it is to cook rice, there is no need to repeat myself. Cleaning after each use is very simple. The inner lid, the inner cooking pot and the moisture or dew collector are all removable for easy cleaning. Rinse them in warm soapy water. Avoid using any harsh or scratchy pad. Only use soft kitchen rag or a blush.

Wipe off any debris on the heating plate and be gentle with the thermostat.

LCD and Timer: There is no LCD or timer for this rice cooker. Time to cook each batch of rice depends on how much you are cooking. For example, if you cook 10 cups of dry rice, it will take about 20 minutes or so vs. 30 minutes if you cook up to the full capacity of 20 cups of dry rice.

Menu Selections: As I said, there is one “cook” button or lever to push when you are ready to cook and a “warm” indicator light that will be switched on automatically after the rice is cooked.

ProsThe hinged lid is a big plus in a commercial setting as you don’t have to figure out where to set the lid when you need to ladle some rice out. As big as this rice cooker, it is quite energy-efficient. It only consumes 1200 watts for each cooking hour and 52 watts per warming hour. For each batch of rice, you’ll only need it for 30 minutes cooking time, that is 600 watts per batch. Some restaurant owners even used it to cook soup overnight. The beef in the soup will be folk tender along with the aromatic smells from the herbs and vegetables.

ConsNo negative comments about this rice cooker. I know from other Zojirushi rice cooker products, the User Manual is “awkwardly” written or translated by a non-English speaking person. You’ll have to roll with it. It shouldn’t be that hard to operate a one-button cooker.

Price, Warranty and Where to Buy – Zojirushi NYC-36 Rice Cooker

Since this is considered a commercial product, it only has a six-month limited manufacturer warranty as opposed to a one-year for residential rice cookers. Amazon has one of the best prices, but make sure you do a quick comparison when you are ready to buy.
