Capacity for Mid to Large Families

Two capacity sizes for this NS-TSC series of rice cookers: the NS-TSC10 for 5.5 and NS-TSC18 for the 10 cups uncooked rice. The 5.5 cup one is suitable for small to mid-sized families and the 10 cup for a large family of 8 to 10 people. Please bear in mind that the measuring cup with the rice cooker is smaller than the U.S. cup (6 oz vs 8 oz). So when you prepare rice, make sure you cook a bit more.

Micro-Computerized Fuzzy Logic Heating

This is the most popular heating technology in many of Zojirushi’s rice cookers, the Micro-computerized Fuzzy Logic technology. Technical jargon aside, this means that the rice cooker is equipped with a computer chip armed with artificial intelligence to be able to “think” and “adjust” according to what you are cooking. For instance, if you are cooking sushi rice, the rice cooker will have a different temperature and cooking time vs cooking brown rice. The end result is always the same, restaurant quality rice without any guess work and mess.

The NS-TSC10 has the “Keep Warm”, “Extended Keep Warm” and “Reheat” functions. After rice is cooked, the rice cooker will automatically be switched to “Keep Warm” mode for up to 12 hours. The “Extended Keep Warm” does similar thing as the “Keep Warm” except it keeps the rice at a lower temperature so the rice won’t be dried out after a period of hours. “Reheating” cycle will allow you to reheat the rice for your next meal or for someone who might eat at a later time.

It’s a Snap to Use and to Clean

The most you’ll have to do is to learn the menu settings and figure out which is which. For cooking white rice, you’ll need to press the “white” rice button on the LCD panel and so on and so forth.

The inner lid and the inner cooking pan are to be cleaned up after each use. Both are detachable for easy cleaning. You’d do the same as you would for other dishes except for not to scratch the inner pot with any abrasive pad.

Other Features – Zojirushi NS-TSC Rice Cooker

LCD and Timer: You can set the timer to cook rice or something else at a later time. For example, before you leave for work, you can measure the ingredients and set the timer to cook a one-pot meal for dinner. The LCD panel is in black and white, but very to read and to use for different menu options.

Menu Selections: There are 9 options for the menu, white rice, mixed rice, sushi rice, porridge, sweet rice, brown rice, cake, steam and quick cooking. For most of the American households, the white and brown rice are probably the most common types of rice. You should definitely take advantage of steaming and baking functions, especially baking cakes in the cooker as it will save you on electricity bill than turning an oven on to heat up the house.

Cord: Zojirushi made it so convenient to have the retractable chord so you can keep your counter space neat.

Color: This rice cooker has stainless brown color, which is quite rare among the top-rated rice cookers.

Dimensions: 10-1/8 x 14 x 8-1/2

Accessories: Steaming basket, rice spatula, spatula holder and measuring cup

helpful-tipsHelpful Tips

  1. When using the steaming function, make sure you cut the meats and vegetables into bite-size pieces for best result.
  2. Don’t add baking powder or baking soda in the cake batter as it may cause the cake to rise too high for the cooker to malfunction during the cooking process.

Customer Reviews on NS-TSC Rice Cooker

5 out of 5Since this is a new release by Zojirushi, the feedback by customers is limited. However, the few who took the time to share their experience rated this rice cooker as 5 stars. They couldn’t find anything negative to say.

Pros and Cons

ProsIt’s multi-functional. It cooks perfect rice. It’s stylish. It has all the major menu settings you’d ever need. It’s more affordable comparing to other Zojirushi models.

ConsHappy to report that they didn’t have any. Knowing Zojirushi and its rice cookers, one of the common complaints is often about the User Manual. It seems that it is not written by an English speaker. But it shouldn’t be that hard for you to get a hang of the rice cooker.

Price, Warranty and Where to Buy – Zojirushi NS-TSC10 Rice Cooker

There are several retail and online stores that carry the Zojirushi NS-TSC10 and 18 rice cookers. Take a few minutes by typing in “Zojirushi NS-TSC10 or 18” into Google and see who has the best price. One word of caution is that Zojirushi only honors its 1-year limited warranty through the authorized dealers such as Amazon and Bed, Bath and Beyond.  Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish by saving a few bucks. I’d rather have the peace of mind to know it’s covered under warranty in case something goes wrong with the rice cooker.

I also want to add that this model is truly a steal with cooking rice, steaming whatever and baking cakes. Several similar rice cookers with fewer features cost more than this.
