2 Capacity Sizes

JAG-B series come with two different capacities, JAG-B10U of 5.5 cups and JAG-B18U for 10 cups of uncooked rice. The former is a good size for families of 3 to 5 people and the latter for 6 to 8 people. There is one thing you need to know about Japanese rice cookers. The measuring cup is smaller than the standard American one. Rice doubles its volume after cooking. If you are planning to feed your family rice as a main dish, you may want to cook more. A side dish will require less rice. Feel free to play with the amount until you know for sure.

The good news is that you can keep cooked rice in the fridge for at least a week without any problem. You can always re-use it for something else such as breakfast burrito or Chinese fried rice.

Far-Infrared Heating

Far-Infrared energy is used in JAG-B10U rice cooker. Similar to the wavelength of the light in a microwave oven, the infrared is a type of electromagnetic energy. This energy radiates around the water and the grains of rice to generate heat through molecular vibration. The heat hence cooks the rice.

There are several benefits from infrared energy. To start off, the radiated heat produces even heat distribution throughout the inner cooking pot of the rice cooker. It requires less warm-up time than conventional heating. Secondly, more flavor is sealed by the even and fasting cooking. As a result, the rice tastes better.

The other unique feature of this Tiger rice cooker is that the inner pot is designed with a round shape for optimal circulation effect. Once again, it contributes to even heating and better cooked rice.

Easy to Use and Effortless to Clean

Similar to many rice cookers, JAG-B18U is easy to operate from the LCD control panel. As long as you measure the dry rice accurately and add water per the instruction, and choose the appropriate menu setting, it’s hard to go wrong.

Cleaning doesn’t take much effort either. Make sure you soak the inner pot with soaping water. Use a non-scratchy dish rag to wipe out residue rice. Rinse and let it dry. Make sure you clean the steam vent after each use.

helpful-tipsHelpful Tips for Tiger 10-Cup Rice Cooker

  1. Add two tablespoons of tap water to the rice before reheating to prevent it from being dry.
  2. Don’t wash silverware in the inner pot to prevent scratching the coating.
  3. The minimum amount of rice you should cook for the 5.5 cup rice cooker is 1 cup and 2 cups for the 10 cup.
  4. Don’t use hot water when cooking rice as the temperature sensor wouldn’t function properly with water above 95 degrees F or 35 C.

Price, Warranty and Where to Buy – Tiger JAG-B18U Rice Cooker

One year standard affair on the warranty is offered. I should mention that the rice cooker is a Japanese brand made in China. I know some of you may not trust the quality of products made in China due to the negative publicity of some Chinese manufacturers. But the Tiger rice cooker should be an exception. It’s very rare to receive a perfect score as it has with the Tiger JAG-B18U rice cooker. I trust the Japanese has done its part in ensuring the quality to be consistent with Tiger’s reputation.

Where to buy Tiger rice cooker is often a question many people have. There is no right or wrong answer. My advice to you is to shop around in your local retail and online stores to compare prices and terms. At the time of this review, Amazon‘s price is 40% off retail list price.
