Multiple Capacities for Different Sizes of Families

The Tatung’s website lists this rice cooker as 11 cups in capacity whereas on Amazon, it has 10 cups. Despite the differences in product descriptions, the 10 cups are in uncooked rice which will double its volume upon cooking. It’s a decent size for a large family with 6 to 8 people. Tatung also has different sizes of rice cookers such as 3 cups, 6 cups and 20 cups.

It would be remiss if I don’t talk about the steaming capability of Tatung’s rice cookers. This is not your ordinary steamer tray where you might steam some veggies, hard-boiled eggs, etc. It is a serious steamer. In fact, it’s a stacked steamer if you get the right attachments (TAC-S02) with two extra steamers fitting into the cooker perfectly. You can literally cook your entire meal in this cooker, not the one pot mesh of everything, but multiple dishes with distinct ingredients, flavors and textures. Isn’t it too good to be true?

Indirect Heating Technology Like a Double Boiler

The most differentiating element in Tatung’s rice cookers is the perfect application of the “double-boiler” concept. You might be familiar with this cooking technique when melting chocolate for a dessert you are making. The Tatung rice cooker has two components:

  1. The external vessel or chamber: The heating element is beneath the cooking vessel, completely sealed from the outside. You can’t see a heating plate or a sensor in the external vessel. Therefore, there is no worry about having water or residue to cause any mechanical damage.
  2. There is an inner pot like all other rice cookers. This pot sits into the external vessel leaving some gaps in between.
  3. To cook rice, you fill the inner pot with measured rice, add water to the marked line in the inner pot. Then you also need to fill in certain cups of water in the external vessel. Then plug the rice cooker into the electric outlet. Turn on the switch for “cook”. No worries, the instructions for the # of cups of water for the inner pot and the external vessel are all provided with the rice cooker.
  4. The cooker heats up the water in the external vessel and turn the water into steam. The steam heats up the water and rice in the inner pot. Thus it’s called indirect heating.

The benefits of this method are multiple:

  1. The rice will never get scorched.
  2. The rice will always be tender and moist, so is everything you decide to cook or steam.
  3. The nutrients will not be destroyed.
  4. The rice never boils over in the pot.

Easy to Use and Clean with All Stainless Steel Materials

Since the rice cooker is made of stainless stain inside out, I mean the external vessel, the inner pot, and even all the accessories. In addition, the external vessel is completely sealed as mentioned before, cleaning is so easy as you would do with other stainless steel appliances in your kitchen.

Cooking is as easy as measuring rice, add water to the external vessel and the inner pot per the instructions and turn on the switch.

helpful-tipsHelpful Tips for TAC-11KN

  1. Run the cooker with plain water in the external vessel and the inner pot to get rid of the metallic smell before cooking rice.
  2. Wait for 15 minutes after the rice is done to get the best taste and texture.
  3. Since the inner pot is practically a handsome sized steamer, cook some Chinese style chicken soup in it. Get an organic whole chicken. Wash inside out and drain the water. Put the chicken in the inner pot. Add some green onion (either whole or chopped), fresh ginger, some Chinese or Korean ginseng, goji berries and dry sherry or Chinese cooking wine. Add some water in the inner pot as well as in the outer vessel. Cover and let it simmer for an hour or so. Let it sit for 15 minutes and add salt and pepper to taste. Savor the fresh and aromatic chicken broth you’ve never tasted before.

Tatung-TAC-11KN Rice Cooker Customer Reviews

4.0 out of 5One of the most touted features about the Tatung TAC-11KN Rice Cooker is the functionality for cooking multiple meals at the same time. It saves time and energy. You will get your bang for the buck for sure. You can always pay more electricity usage if needed, but you can never recoup the time lost.

Pros and Cons of Tatung Rice Cooker

Pros1) The stainless steel through and through was praised by those who are cautious about the potential harm other cooking materials may cause to our health. 2) Foods always come out with its natural flavor and aroma. 3) The steaming vessel is so huge comparing to other add-on steaming tray. 4) Stainless steel will last forever. In fact, many people have owned this rice cooker for over 30 years. 5) It’s energy and time efficient to cook multiple meals once. 6) It’s faster to cook rice and other foods than other brands of rice cookers.

ConsThe only thing I could find is the poor quality of the User Manual on Tatung’s website for this rice cooker. It’s pieced together between English and Chinese. It’s blurry at times. I wish they could do a better job with it.

Yes, but you’ll have to tinker with the ratio between water and rice to get to the way you like it.
