12 1/2 in diameter and 3.5 in depth, this wok has the capacity of 5-2/7 quarts. Although it’s not as big as the normal 14 inch wok, it’s big enough to handle lots of food for small to mid-sized families. Like all other woks, it’s great for multiple purposes such as stir-frying, braising, stewing, etc.

Heating: For All Heat Sources

The unique strength of the Swiss Diamond wok is in the diamond crystals mixed with high-quality non-stick composite to produce superior performance. There are several advantages of using diamonds:

  1. It’s obvious that diamonds are very durable with incredible strength and resilience.
  2. It’s highly conductive, 4 x that of copper. We all know copper is one of the most conductive materials used in cookware.
  3. It allows the wok to brown food just like stainless steel, but without the sticking factor.

When you take a look how the wok is manufactured, you can’t help but being amazed by the meticulous processes. Below is a high level summary:

  1. The aluminum is melted and cast into the form of a wok.
  2. The aluminum is then pressurized to squeeze all the bubbles out and to ensure complete filling of the mold.
  3. A sandblasting process is applied to prepare the cookware for coating.
  4. Two layers of non-stick material with diamond crystals are coated over the wok.
  5. The bottom of the wok is trimmed to ensure perfect flat bottom for the stability on a cooktop.
  6. The handles are attached via exterior bolsters instead of rivets to prevent food build-up inside of the pan to cause bacteria.
  7. Quality assurance takes place before being shipped to the warehouse for sale.

The wok, including the handles, can withstand heat up to 500 degrees F and will work on different heat sources. There is a separate series of cookware for induction heating.

Easy to Use and to Clean

If you know how to use a frying pan, you’d have no problem using this wok. Stir-frying is perhaps one of the healthiest methods of cooking provided that you don’t add 5 gallons of cooking oil and other fat.

Since it’s non-stick, cleaning is as easy as washing it with warm soapy water. Even though Swiss Diamond claims that it’s dishwasher safe, it’s better to wash it by hand to preserve the non-stick surface. The same goes with using a wooden or a silicone spoon for cooking.

Pros and Cons

ProsIt’s heavy and sturdy with even heat distribution. It doesn’t change color after a period of use unlike many other non-stick cookware on the market. The glass lid allows people to peek at the food while cooking.

ConsOne customer reported the non-stick wore off after a while. I am not sure it’s a matter of the product quality or the operator’s issue.
