Capacity: 14 Inches

This Presto wok is measured as 14 inches in diameter like many similar woks on the market. It’s quite roomy to cook and toss enough food to feed a mid to large family.

Heating: Up to 400 Degrees F

The wok comes with a Control Master probe with temperatures from 200 to 400 degrees F, that is from warm to searing hot. For stir-fries, you’d be using close to 400 degrees to produce close to the result from a Chinese restaurant. Yes, I said “close” as it is almost impossible to reproduce the BTUs of a commercial burner at home.

The body of the wok is made of stainless steel that doesn’t peel off, nor emit toxic gases, nor does it react to acid food.

The bottom of the wok is made of clad aluminum. In case you are not familiar with the word “clad”, it refers to a technique that’s used in the manufacturing process where a layer of heat conductive material such as aluminum or copper is sandwiched in by a thin layer of non-reactive material such as stainless steel. The benefits of such a process are for fast heating and even heating distribution and retention to compensate for the deficiency in these areas by stainless steel.

Easy to Use and to Clean

If you are into stir-frying, then you would probably be very familiar with the prep work before the real action. The work includes, cleaning the meats/seafood, vegetables and spices; cutting up of such; get all your sauces and spices ready to go. Then heat the wok for 5 minutes or so on high. The “job” will be done in less than five minutes. Otherwise, you will be eating “stewed” stir-fry.

Cleaning a stainless steel wok is not as easy as cleaning a non-stick surface. But obvisously you are aware of the trade-off. One tip shared in the Presto Wok User Manual is to soak the wok with enough water. Then heat the wok to 250 degrees to a boiling pot. While it’s boiling, use a wooden or a plastic spatula to gently scrub the cooking surface to loosen up the residue. Then clean it with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry the wok.

Customer Reviews

4.4 out of 5The wok was rated as 4.4 out 5 by all reviewers. Most customers liked the fact it could heat up really quickly and retain the heat for a good stir-fry. They were pleased with the good quality of the wok and they didn’t have to wonder about what the non-stick material would do to their health.

Pros and Cons

ProsThe wok is well made with stainless steel that the surface doesn’t peel off. The wok gets heated fast and you have the control over how hot to produce the best tasting food based on what you are cooking. The wok is versatile for stir-frying, deep-frying of donuts, egg rolls or chicken wings. One customer was so creative to use the wok as a holding bowl for his ice cream, without plugging in the power cord, of course.

ConsA few customers complained about the shorter power cord and considered it as a inconvenience. In fact, it’s more of the industry norm nowadays to provide a shorter power cord due to the potential hazard caused by entanglement or being tripped by a long cord. For those who absolutely need to have a long cord, you may use an extension cord to solve the problem. Just be careful where you drape the extension cord and keep small children out of the way when cooking.
