Krups RK7011 10-Cup Rice Cooker Review

Krups RK7011 10 Cup Rice Cooker and Steamer boasts 4-in-1 functions: a rice cooker, a steamer, a slow cooker and a cooker perfectly designed and engineered for oatmeal.

As a household appliance manufacturer, Krups’ products are no strangers to many people in the U.S. and around the world. It is best known for its coffee and espresso machines. Since 1846, Krups has been designing and manufacturing consumer products with its bold design and world-class craftsmanship. The same philosophy is reflected in this rice cooker.

Capacity for Mid to Large Families

RK7011 has the capacity of 10-cups uncooked rice which doubles its volume upon cooking. There is also a smaller size, RK7009 of 5 cups. Choose the 5-cup one for small to mid-sized families and the 10-cup for large ones. I would choose the 10-cup regardless of my family size as you will have the versatility to cook more if needed. In addition, when slow cooking, people tend to cook more to freeze in small containers for later use. The price difference between the small and large size is about $25.

Direct Heating

This rice cooker is a digital rice cooker which means the cooking time and temperature are controlled and adjusted automatically depending on the types of rice. No need to hover over a sauce pan by the stove to make sure it is not to be boiled over.

Easy to Use and to Clean

One of the competitive edges the Krups rice cooker over many others is the inner cooking pot is dishwasher safe on the bottom of the rack. You can also wash it by hand with mild dish soap. Avoid using a harsh scratch pad at all time as it will ruin the non-stick pan surface.

Other Features – RK7011

LCD and Timer: The display panel is easy to read and to operate. You can set the timer for up to 9 hours, which is shorter than many competing rice cookers with up to 24 hours. The delayed timer is only good for cooking rice, not for oatmeal. You would need to adjust the timer for slow cooking and for cooking oatmeal manually.

Menu Selections: There are four menu options for rice, steam, slow cook and oatmeal. So you are covered for major types of meals such as rice, breakfast and one pot meal.

If you happen to love having oatmeal for breakfast, you are in for a treat. Measure the oatmeal, add milk or a liquid of your choice and water. Adjust the timer based on how much you are cooking. Then take care of your morning routine and come back to freshly prepared oatmeal to give you satisfaction and energy for the day.

Cord: Nothing special here. No detached or retractable feature.

Color: Stainless steel

Dimensions: 11 x 11 x 11.5 inches

Accessories: Steaming tray, rice spatula, rice spatula holder, and measuring cup

helpful-tipsHelpful Tips

  1. The timer for steaming is from 1 to 60 minutes. Choose the timer according to what you are cooking.
  2. Don’t open the rice cooker while cooking as it will interfere with the cooking.
  3. Empty the liquid from the Condensation Collector and rinse it off after each use.

Customer Reviews – Great Appliance to Own or Gift

4 out of 5The rice cooker has received 4-star rating consistently. People just love the multi-functional features this rice cooker offers and how well it cooks rice and other meals. It was also a very popular gift item.

Pros and Cons

ProsFour features in one cooker stand out in the rice cooker market. A menu option designed for oatmeal is another winner. Dishwasher safe with the inner cooking pot is a rare feature. It’s more affordable than a high-end Japanese brand rice cooker.

ConsOne reviewer didn’t like the rice cooker at all comparing to the Zojirushi rice cooker. I am not sure if it is qualified to be a “minus” really as people’s preferences vary wildly.

Price, Warranty and Where to Buy – Krups RK7011 Rice Cooker

Krups offers a two-year limited warranty worldwide which is exceptional among all rice cooker manufacturers. A one-year is the norm typically.

Amazon, Zappos and Bed, Bath & Beyond all carry the model. Amazon has both sizes (5 and 10 cups) with the lowest price in my brief comparison. Make sure you do a quick search in Google by typing in “Krups RK7011 rice cooker” to get the best value for your money.
