Cooks Standard Stainless Steel 13-Inch Wok Review

Cooks Standard Stainless Steel 13-Inch Wok offers a great alternative to those who love to cook Asian inspired dishes, but don’t have the budget to pay a more expensive wok. This wok is well-designed and made of quality materials at 1/3 of the price of some other brands.

Capacity: 13″ in Diameter & 5″ in Depth

The Cooks Standard wok is 13 inches in diameter, one inch smaller than many on the market. However it’s offset by an inch deeper than most. Overall, it’s a substantial size to cook up a batch of Chinese stir fries or using it for other methods of cooking such as braising, stewing and slow cooking.

This wok has a wide mouth, curved sides that taper down to a smaller flat base. The special shape makes it easier to cook with very minimum butter or cooking oil, but still produces tasty food.

Heating: Up to 500 Degrees F

While the wok costs much less than the big name brands, it’s not short on quality materials. The wok, too, is made of tri-ply stainless-aluminum-stainless materials. The core is made of alloy aluminum for superior heat conductivity and even heat distribution. Since aluminum is soft and easy to warp, it is sandwiched between two layers of 18/10 stainless steel on the inside and outside. Here you get the toughness and durability of stainless steel along with the shiny look. What a perfect marriage between the two!

The same construction doesn’t stop at the base of the wok. It extends to the walls to have the same heat distribution and retention.

The wok can take heat up to 500 degrees F and is made for all cooktop surfaces, including induction heating and oven.

The handle is designed with air flow technology and it helps keep it cool during high heating cooking.

Easy to Use and to Clean

This is a bigger version of a frying pan except that food will not easily splatter out like a shallow frying pan. You can cook a great amount of food but still have room to tilt the wok and coat the food with the proper sauce and seasoning.

No special care is required to wash a stainless steel cook surface. Warm water and mild soap are all you’ll need. It’s also dishwasher safe. But I have a hard time imagining people put this big sized wok in a dishwasher.

Pros and Cons

ProsThe wok is so roomy to cook up lots of food. The wok is well-designed with balance and stability on a flat cook surface and it even works on a small burner thanks to the narrow base. The domed lid is just icing on the cake so you don’t have to spend more time running around and looking for a lid. The long handle is really handy to toss and tilt the wok if you have enough strength to do so. The helper handle is very helpful to carry the wok.

ConsFor once, nobody complained about anything.

Price, Warranty and Where to Buy – All-Clad Stainless Steel Open Stir Fry

It’s hard to beat the price of this wok. Similar size with similar quality wok would cost 3x if not more without the lid. This is really a great bargain. Amazon, Cooks Standard’s own website and others all carry this wok. In fact, Cooks Standard has the same wok listed as more than double of the price on Amazon. By the way, their website doesn’t have much helpful information other than a product catalog. Even that, it’s not well-designed nor easy to navigate.
